The rowing club had a boathouse they no longer needed for boats and a lake that is too cold to swim in for most of the year. Turning one into a sauna for the other was the obvious move.

The original log walls were in better shape than anyone expected. We lifted the building, replaced the rotten bottom logs and the foundations, and kept everything else. Inside, the sauna is lined with heat-treated aspen and the changing room with simple pine boards.

A new pier connects the sauna to the water. In winter, the club keeps a hole open in the ice at the end of it.
